Commission Opportunities

North Yorkshire Open Studios 2012 Dates: 9/10 and 6/17 June

Charlotte Morrison - cup & saucer (2011 NYOS commission)
A series of new commission opportunities have been developed as part of the 2012 North Yorkshire Open Studios. These aim to celebrate the quality and variety of artists and makers working across North Yorkshire. Priority will be given to artists and makers currently either living or working in North Yorkshire, or with a strong connection to the county.

1 Arts and Heritage Commissions
Following Art Connections’ highly successful ‘Inspired by Heritage’ project’ which took place in 2009/2010 we are pleased to announce three commissions for contemporary artists and makers to create new work in response to the following collections and heritage sites.

Dales Countryside Museum, Hawes. Commission value: £3000 (in partnership with the Friends of the Museum)

Royal Pump Room Museum, Harrogate. Commission value: £5000 (in partnership with Culture, Tourism and Sports, Harrogate Borough Council)

Helmsley Walled Garden, Helmsley. Commission value: £3000

2) ‘The Secret Tea Party’  - Artists Commissions

We are pleased to invite submissions for two commissions, each to be combined with a series of workshops, which will celebrate the quality and variety of artists and makers working across North Yorkshire and the much-loved tradition of afternoon tea, often associated with open studio visits.

Following 2011’s successful commissions of a limited edition tea towel by Helen Roddie and cup and saucer by Charlotte Morrison, Art Connections wishes to commission two artists to create work for events in Scarborough and Craven District, giving more people to have the opportunity to engage with NYOS through a diverse range of events.

Art Connections is working with The Secret Tea Room and Clandestine Cake Club to present two events, one in each area.

The fee for each commission is £1000, to cover all planning and preparation, production, installation, removal and other incidental costs. In addition there will be participatory workshops around the theme which are budgeted separately and for which artists will be paid a fee plus materials costs. Artists can choose to collaborate when applying for these commissions.

Application info

A more detailed brief for each commission can be downloaded from the Art Connections website: http://www.art-connections.org.uk or obtained by emailing the Art Connections office: admin@art-connections.org.uk.

The deadline for all applications is: 31st October, 2011
