Artists Access to Art College - open for applications


The AA2A project offers artists & designer makers the opportunity to undertake a period of research or realise a project using art college facilities eg. workshops, IT facilities, lending library, & lecture programme.  AA2A schemes aim to benefit students and Colleges through their interaction with practising artists.


Access is free, for at least 100 hours, between Oct 2011 and April 2012 and a materials/travel grant of £220 is usually available. Closing dates for applications vary but all are in September 2011. Applicants must have at least one years professional practice and should be able to work with minimal technical support


Calling artists based in Calderdale

Professional and amateur artists living, working or studying in Calderdale are invited to exhibit 2D work in any medium for the first Calderdale Open Art Exhibition.

The exhibition is open to anyone living, working or studying within the Calderdale Metropolitan Borough. Work in any two-dimensional medium will be accepted and artists may submit up to three works per entry. There is a handling fee of £15.00 or £10.00 (passport to leisure/students) for up to three artworks, and 33% commission on any sales.

This exhibition supported by Harveys of Halifax with prizes of vouchers to the value of: 1st Prize £50, 2nd Prize £30, 3rd Prize £20 plus other prizes. The exhibition will take place at Halifax Visitor Centre and Art Gallery, Piece Hall from 24th September - 30th October 2011.

Turn your ideas into neon light!

Neon is a unique and mysterious subject that few have had chance to gain experience in. Neon Workshops cater for all experiences and will help turn your ideas into light! 

Their intensive and in depth neon sculpture courses are now offered to unravel the mystery concerned with the creation of energy saving, 100% recyclable light.

The Neon Universe
8th - 11th September £560

Matt Dilling (New York) and Shawna Peterson (San Francisco) fly in to teach their own styles of neon art, along side master neon maker Julia Bickerstaff (Leeds). Invited scientists and astronomers will offer evening presentations relating to neon light and electricity.

One Day Intensive
21st October £150

Learn everything from transcribing ideas into neon drawings to filling glass forms with gas. At the end of the day each participant will take home a piece of neon they have designed and helped make or directed in making.

Archive Books is the publishing name used for a series of artist's books produced by Victoria Lucas over the past three years. A selection of these books can be found in special collections across the UK, including the Brotherton Library Leeds, Manchester Metropolitan University, and Tate Britain, London. They have been exhibited in various Artist Book Fairs across the country, and have also been part of touring exhibitions, traveling to various galleries in Europe, America, and Mexico.

Victoria Lucas creates artist's books that record places and objects specific to the notion of time continuum. Consisting of photography, scanned images and text, her books present collections of these subjects in a way that draw attention to categories through their function, history and cultural references.

Deadline extended for New Northern £10,000 Arts Prize 


Painters based in the North of England are encouraged to submit applications for an exciting new arts prize before the 12 August 2011. The deadline has recently been extended to enable recent graduates to apply.
