Yorkshire Art Geo cache opens this weekend 

Don your walking shoes, charge your iphone, get out your GPS and hunt for creative finds among the spectacular landscapes of North Yorkshire.

Follow a new series of fun and engaging trails which, as well as bringing out your creative side, will lead you on a series of walks and journeys across the North Yorkshire Dales and Moors.

The 3 new Geo Art Cache trails, which feature specially commissioned artworks, will be open from 28 May 2011. There are two trails in the Yorkshire Dales (Upper Wharfedale) and one on the Ryedale Wolds.

This is a great way for people of all ages to interact with art, geocaching and the breathtaking Yorkshire landscape in a different way.

TPYH Freelance Project Manager Opportunity

Turning Point Yorkshire & Humber aims to provide a new and dynamic voice for the visual arts across the region.  We are currently looking for a Freelance Project Manager to join us!

Ideally someone who is dynamic, enthusiastic and has relevant experience of working in the visual arts. This role will support the TPYH Steering Group in the strategic development of the visual arts across the Yorkshire region – driving forward a sector endorsed strategy with the support of a lively but voluntary Steering Group.

HOW TO APPLY
We are inviting you to propose:

  • A detailed statement regarding your approach to moving Turning Point forward over a 12 month period
  • A comprehensive CV with details of previous experience relevant to this contract
  • Details of how you would propose to work on this contract in terms of practicalities.

Established in 2009, the Steering Group along with other key partners has delivered an intensive action-based programme of activity, culminating this year in the launch of A Voice for the Visual Arts – Strategy 2011.

This post will build on the work of the past 2 years, undertaken by current co-ordinators, Beam and the Interim Steering Group and has been created to oversee and manage the following:

  • Appropriate support for the new Steering Group including sub groups, reviews of the structure and terms of reference, recruitment of officers (chair, vice chair etc.) and reporting methodologies.
  • Discussion, development, and implementation of a Delivery Plan taking forward the priorities set out in the strategy: A Voice for the Visual Arts 2011-2014.
  • The relationships between regional Turning Point networks and the national coordinator, all stakeholders and Yorkshire and the Humber visual arts constituencies.

Starter Studio Programme for Ceramicists - Call for applications

To foster new talent and support early career artists, Sheffield based Yorkshire Artspace has announced 3 new Starter Studio Programmes: for Designer Silversmiths, for Ceramicists and for Engaged Practice.

Designed to help ambitious artists who are at an early career stage further develop their skills and kick start their creative enterprise in a supportive environment, this programme offers access to shared equipped workspace, technical, mentor and business support as well as commission and exhibition opportunities.

Manor Oaks Studios are located on the site of a former deer park which has been developed into a Tudor heritage visitor centre. These purpose built, eco-designed units are especially suitable for crafts people/designer makers.  One of these four studios has been developed into a start-up unit for ceramicists. 

Selected applicants will have access to a fully equipped workspace with two kilns, a wheel, a spray booth with compressor and spray gun and individual benches with storage space.  In addition the starters will also have access to technical, mentor and ongoing business support and exhibition opportunities.

Turning Strategy into Action : Networking event

BEAM Echoing Green With Arts Council England facing a series of administration cuts as well as a diminishing budget for grants over the last few years, it is timely that the national Turning Point network is gaining strength with an infrastructure development focus.

Join the Turning Point Yorkshire and Humber (TPYH) Steering Group and Keynote Speaker, John Holden from Demos to explore and debate the vision set out for the visual arts sector in our region in relationship to the national and international context.

TPYH is the network for the visual arts that seeks to takes its view from the sector in our region. Supporting and strengthening the visual arts is now key and this event will bring together practitioners and supporters to get involved in turning a concise and clear strategy into action.

We are inviting you, as

  • artists,
  • visual arts agencies,
  • arts educationalists,
  • local authority arts officers,
  • museum staff
  • independent artist-run projects and programmes

and anyone else with an interest in the visual arts to join us and make sure your voice is heard!
